Ever since reading Richard Russo’s Empire Falls a few years back, I’ve been fascinated by the large textile mills that were the economic center of numerous New England town.
This is the loading dock for one the mill buildings built by Goodall Mills in Sanford Maine.
Two million feet of factory space were shuttered in 1954 when Burlington Mills bought Goodall Mills and moved the textile looms to their southern plants.

This small harbor is a short walk from the house we are renting. It makes for a pleasant evening stroll after the winds die down. Perfect stillness like this is rare in Idaho.
