Each March, hundreds of trumpeter swans arrive near our house on their migration path to the Greater Yellowstone region. They stay for three weeks or so and then move on. The swans spend their days scavenging in the fields and their nights at a nearby lake. Trumpeter swans are one of the largest waterfowls on earth with wingspans of up to 10 feet. Unfortunately, it is rare to get close enough to the swans in order to truly comprehend their size. Tonight when I was taking photos of the swans I came across their tracks. The picture doesn’t do it justice, but I can attest their footprints are eight to ten inches wide. Absolutely amazing.

Awesome shots! What great color between the red/orange bramble/bullrush/whatever, the blue of the lake, and the white of the snow. Swan shots or pretty grand, too.
Thanks. Simmons.
Yes they are big and beautiful. We liked the shots too.
Thanks Jerry and Morita. As I look at them more, I think they might be tundra swans. Still pretty though.
